Attendance Accounting
LTISD Middle school hours are 8:50 am - 4:10 pm Students need to be in their classrooms before the tardy bell at 8:50 a.m. Students must be present in school by 10:00 am in order to be counted present for purposes of reporting attendance to the state. Student attendance is taken in each class daily. Students must be in attendance the majority of the school day in order to participate in school-related activities on that day or evening.
More information on attendance is available in the Student/Parent Handbook starting on pg 35.
Skyward Family Access Absence Entry Instructions
Attendance Committee
If a student does not meet compulsory attendance requirements, the campus attendance committee will review the circumstances, using the guidelines at Board Policy FEC (Local), to determine whether the student will receive credit. Please see your student's Assistant Principal if you would like an appeal form.
Documentation from a Health Care Professional
A student will not be counted absent for a documented appointment with a doctor, dentist or other health care professional if the student attends school at any time on the day of the appointment, and if the student satisfactorily completes the missed school work in a reasonable amount of time. The documentation must be in the form of a note from the health care professional and must be uploaded/emailed to the attendance clerk/provided within 3 days of the absence.
Upon return to school, a student absent for more than 5 consecutive days because of personal illness must upload/email the attendance clerk/bring a note from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s extended absence from school.
Religious Holy Day
Observation of religious holy days, including one day for travel to the site and one day of travel from the site is considered an excused absence. Please submit your form (must be completed for each day) before the day of your event. Please complete and return to bcmsattendance@ltisdschools.org
Family Trip Absence
As you finalize your plans for your travel with your family, please carefully consider Texas compulsory attendance laws. According to the Texas Education Code Section 25.085(a) Compulsory School Attendance: A child who is required to attend school under this section should attend school each school day for the entire period the program of instruction is provided.
Our most detailed resource for attendance accounting is the Student/Parent Handbook. The handbook identifies what is considered excused absences and the supporting documentation that is required to excuse those absences. Whether an absence is considered excused is governed by Board Policy and state law and will be considered on a case by case basis. Please submit any supporting documentation for absences to me so that your student’s attendance may be coded correctly.
Additionally, please contact your students Assistant Principal if you have further questions regarding a prolonged absence of your student.
